Farm Play Tray
This activity is incredibly quick and simple to make. It’s been a very wet and cold June so far here in the UK, but we needed to get outside in the fresh air. My 2 year old recently watched ‘Babe’ on tv, a movie about a pig. She has also enjoyed playing with her farm animals, so I wanted to make her a farm play tray that she could use indoors or outdoors. My children don’t have many farm toys so I took a quick look around the house to see what I could find.
How to Make a Farm Play Tray
I didn’t have time to make anything fancy so I raided the cupboards and the garden to see what we had got. I used:
- A empty Easter egg box for the barn.
- Wheatabix
- Soil
- Grass pulled from our garden.
- Broccoli
- Toy farm animals
- Toy tractors and diggers
- An empty ice cream tub
- Bath rubber ducks.
- Play tray
It took me about 10 minutes to put everything together. My daughter loved digging the wheatabix with the digger, pretending the farmer was pulling up the broccoli and crumbling the wheatabix with her fingers, helping to strengthen those fine motor skills. This is such a great cheap and quick activity to make that encourages creative and imaginative play.

Weetabix – great idea!
Thank you. My toddler loved crumbling the weetabix!
Thanks for the idea, I made my own version, not as good as yours but fun to do

That’s brilliant! I really like those wooden animals too. I’m trying to start to make a collection of wooden toys for my little ones.
